Tucked away just a few steps off the glittering Passeig de Gràcia, this sophisticated 2,600 m2 space is divided into eight distinctly different dining spaces, each offering sensational Spanish cuisine ranging from traditional tapas to meat and fish dishes.
Enjoy cava and oysters at the oyster bar or feast on a five-course banquet at the braseria. The vast space is incredibly easy on the eye and I often find myself mesmerised by the theatrical chandeliers and tropical palms that hang ostentatiously from the vaulted ceilings.
With its gilded Art Deco inspired detailing, it has an air of 1920s New York about it, but the relaxed and informal atmosphere is classic Barcelona.
Whether it’s a post-Passeig de Gràcia shopping spree pitstop, a romantic meal for two or a family celebration, El Nacional is a chic and cultivated venue.
