Singapore is a sovereign island city-state located in Maritime Southeast Asia – home to the second richest people in Asia. According to statistics, close to 50% of Singaporeans make up part of the top 10% of the global wealth population. Singapore is also famous for being one of the cleanest countries in the world.

There is a misconception that traveling in Singapore may be an expensive venture, but this special country has so much to offer tourists on all budgets. Here are eight reasons you should board Cathay Pacific and visit this fantastic country

1. Singapore is extremely very culturally diverse

As of 2014, Singapore was considered the most religiously diverse country in the world. Singaporeans pride themselves on being religiously diverse and tolerant. They play host to Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Taoists, and Hindus, as well as those who don’t prescribe to any religion. This is not counting non-Singaporean residents who make up almost 20% of the population. There is a three-block street down South Bridge Street that holds a mosque, a Hindu temple, and a Buddhist temple. While here, you can visit Little India and Chinatown.

More than 95% of Singapore’s original vegetation has been cleared. But it is one of the greenest cities in the world.

There are various places you can commune with nature in Singapore, including:

  1. Tour the Gardens by the bay. Here you will see the OCBC Skyway, Sun Pavilion, Heritage Gardens, Flower Dome, Bay East Garden, Supertree Grove, Children’s Garden, and The Cloud Forest, to mention a few. The Cloud forest hosts the tallest human-made waterfall in the world.
  2. Visit Lazarus Island, a lovely paradise beach.
  3. Visit Orchidville. Here, you will see a variety of rare and exotic orchids. The orchid is the Singaporean national flower.
  4. There are many animals you can see in Singapore. They include pink dolphins, dugongs, hawksbill turtles, flying lemurs, and many more.
  5. Visit the Singapore Botanic garden.

As you can see, the nature-lovers have plenty to explore.

4. You can explore all sorts of global cuisines

Because of the diversity of culture, there is a wide array of foods you can eat in Singapore. As was mentioned earlier, you can visit the hawker markets for food. You can also visit the many eateries around. You can enjoy Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Arab, and Japanese cuisine, among others. Be sure to enjoy some classic Singaporean foods such as:

  • Pandan cake – It goes great with a hot cup of Milo
  • Mamee – a type of noodles
  • Tau Huay – a kind of pudding
  • Ice gem biscuits  – sweet little treats
  • Singapore sling – an iconic local cocktail
  • Ice Kacang – This is a shaved ice dessert
  • Mofo Chilli – they make it in three levels of spiciness

5. You will be amazed by the architecture and and iconic landmarks

Singapore has a mix of traditional, modern, and hybrid architecture. If you enjoy exploring different types of architecture, you should consider visiting:

  1. Thian Hock Keng Temple
  2. Buddha Tooth Relic
  3. Sri Mariamman Temple – the oldest Hindu Temple in Singapore
  4. See the Merlion statue
  5. Visit the fountain of wealth – This is the world’s largest fountain and features a light show.

Singapore has a very vibrant nightlife. Visit the Clarke Quay. You get to enjoy the colorful riverside quay as well as the lively nightlife. There are many great rooftop bars to pick from. For example, you can visit the Kinki Rooftop Bar, 1-Altitude, and Ce La Vi. There are many Instagram worthy places to visit. For example, you can take photos at the Bukit Timah Railway Station.

Be sure to stop over at the Singapore flyer for a fantastic ride and a fantastic view. Engage the locals in traditional Singaporean games like Chapteh. Visit the Universal Studios Theme park and meet the Muppets and go on rides. And, enjoy some water sports at the water park Wild Wild Wet. If you are lucky (or good with timing), you may enjoy Formula 1 in the Singaporean streets.

7. Singapore boasts a rich and diverse arts scene

Some of the buildings and infrastructure in Singapore are works of art in and of themselves. Some streets feature fantastic street art. Be sure to stop by the Art Museum. Here, you will witness lots of cool contemporary art. You will also find the biggest collection of modern Southeast Asian Art.

8. You can stay at some of the world’s finest hotels in Singapore

You can decide to stay in Raffles Hotel, an iconic Singaporean hotel. Or, you can choose to lodge at the Marina Bay Sands. Some say that the Marina Sands Hotel is reason enough to visit Singapore. The hotel is a boat-like skyscraper with a fantastic infinity pool. This infinity pool is the longest elevated infinity pool in the world. Another hotel you can choose is C’est La Vie.
