Barcelona is positively brimming with trendy speciality coffee shops where passionate roasters and baristas are brewing the perfect cup. Syra Coffee is one of my favourites.
This is part of an exciting collaboration between myself and Avis Inspires – Check out my full Barcelona guide (with videos) here.
Although Spain is a country where everyone considers themselves a foodie and budding wine connoisseur, coffee has never really been given much attention.
But that’s all changing at lightning speed and Barcelona is now at the heart of Spain’s booming “third wave” coffee movement.
The Vibe
Syra Coffee is a particularly special example. Nuzzled away down a quiet side street in the charming area of Gracia, which feels more like a village than a city neighbourhood, this tiny temple of caffeination is the creation of Yassir Rais.
As well as being a passionate coffee artisan, Yassir also happens to be a fully qualified architect. He put his design skills to good use by using reclaimed materials and a touch of artistic flair to create this warm and cosy little space.
The Coffee
Syria Coffee also just so happens to be Barcelona’s very first coffee shop specialising in “quality coffee-to-go”.
Beans are sourced locally from roasters in Barcelona and are changed on a regular basis to introduce customers to a broad range of flavours.
The Sweet Treats
At Syra you can also pair your coffee with artisan treats from local producers, such as handmade cakes and pastries from Sil’s American Bakery and gourmet donuts from Lukumas Donuts.
Make it Happen
Pop in and treat yourself to a cup of perfect coffee and take it with you as you stroll through the local neighbourhood. Stop off in one of the many leafy squares to soak up some sunshine and watch the world go by. You have arrived.
Address: Carrer de Siracusa, 13, 08012 Barcelona
