Quick Travel Tips for Visiting Turks & Caicos Caribbean Islands

The Turks & Caicos Caribbean Islands are among the most luxury vacation destinations on the planet. Clear turquoise waters, eternal sunshine and idyllic beaches graced with luxurious resort hotels and private villas – it really is the epitome of paradise!

Here are a few tips to make sure you see and experience the very best of this tropical haven!

Tip: Get more advice about what it’s like travelling in Turks and Caicos if you decide to rent a villa as opposed to a hotel room.

Visit During the Best Time to Visit the Turks & Caicos Islands

Pay close attention to hurricane season when travelling in the Caribbean. This typically runs from June through to November, although there may sometimes be severe storms outside of these months.

If you want a cheap, quiet vacation and don’t mind the possibility of being hit by a hurricane, you can save money by travelling to the Turks and Caicos out of season.

However, the best time to visit the islands is from December to March, when the temperatures are not quite as hot and most of the tours and activities are open.

Pack Insect Repellent

Mosquitoes are rampant in this part of the world and if you don’t take measures to protect yourself, you will be eaten alive in the evenings.

Pack a good quality insect repellent and apply it to all areas liberally from dusk to dawn. This is especially important if you have plans to eat meals outside.

Pack a travel-size bottle or spray for trips out if you decide to head inland.

Plan Tours and Excursions of the Turks & Caicos Islands in Advance

Have an idea of where you want to go and things you want to do before you arrive on the islands. Asking for recommendations once you arrive is not always a good idea.

Taxi drivers and hotel concierges are often paid huge commissions for any tourists they send to a restaurant, scuba operator or similar, so the recommendation you get may not be entirely objective.

Researching in advance means you can check online reviews and make sure the experience is a positive one.

Rent a Car to See the Best of the Turks & Caicos Islands

There is no public transport and taxis are expensive on the Turks and Caicos, so it is usually more cost-effective – and convenient – to rent a car for the duration of your stay.

You can do this in advance and find the best deal possible. Car parking is free everywhere aside from the airport, so it’s a cheap way to explore the island.

Pack Lightly to Experience the Best of the Turks & Caicos Islands

You don’t need to pack lots of clothing when you visit the Turks and Caicos. The weather is wonderful most days and aside from a selection of swimwear, you won’t need much else other than some casual outfits to wear in a restaurant.

Finally, one thing you definitely shouldn’t forget to pack is sunscreen. The sun is strong in the Caribbean, so choose a sunscreen with a high SPF. Make sure it is safe to use in the water if you are snorkelling or scuba diving near coral reefs.
