Just thirty minutes away from Barcelona, paradise awaits…
Aire de Vallromanes ancient baths and spa is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility located in a leafy valley next to the sensational Serralada Coastal Natural Park. Housed in a beautiful 15th century farm, this breathtakingly elegant health resort is part of the five-star Mas Salagros Ecoresort – offers an idyllic escape for a romantic retreat and a rejuvenating day trip from Barcelona.
Float like a rose petal in the bubbling salted baths and reconnect with your mind, body and soul with invigorating body massages and health treatments. Stay for the sumptuous Aire lunch/dinner menu on the sunny hotel terrace and you’ve got the makings of a perfect day of much needed self-indulgence.

Our Experience ~ Instant Relaxation
Surrounded by fragrant pines and giant chestnut trees, we were instantly struck with a sense of serenity as we arrived at Aire de Vallromanes. The sky was cloudless and wide and the sandy red soil beneath our feet was baked and crumbly as we walked up to the resort.
We sat on the sun terrace and breathed in deep lungfuls of fresh country air whilst we waited to enter the baths.
The Grand Tour
Once changed into our swimwear and bundled up in the fluffy white bath robes that were provided, we were ushered around the various candlelit rooms by one of the members of staff, who explained that the baths are maintained at various temperatures, respecting the traditions of ancient Roman baths: hammam, tepidarium (36 °C), caldarium (40), frigidarium (16 °C).
Some baths feature powerful jets for blasting the stress out of your muscles, whilst others are millpond-still and contain salt so that you float effortlessly, “like the dead sea in Israel”. But it was the outdoor pool, which is connected to an indoor pool via a little channel, that excited Rosana and I most.
We started with our treatments – Rosana with a 45 minute full-body massage, and me with a 45 minute ‘4 Hands Ritual’.
The “4 Hands Ritual” Experience
Lying face down, my two masseurs dappled my back with droplets of hot oil, vigorously working it into my muscles in a spectacular display of choreography.
Each masseur focused on one side of body, their movements perfectly synchronised as if it were a dance, almost as if it were one person with four hands.
My feet, my shoulders, my fingers and arms; it was like being reborn with a new body.
45 minutes later and my head was spinning with euphoria. The blood was pumping freely around my body and my usual aches and pains (of which I have far too many for a 31 year old) were long gone.
Rosana was equally as impressed and we both thanked the masseurs fervently for the gift they had given us.
We held each other and floated in silence, letting the gentle music wash over us and feeling the warm water soaking into our bones.
Outside the air was fresh and scented by the pine trees we could see hugging the green valley walls up towards the soft blue sky. We were the only people who seemed to have found the outdoor pool.
Back inside I focused on the sensation of the jets rumbling and undulating beneath the water, caressing us gently. A tree hung low in the arched window frame and I traced my eyes along a branch out to where the tips turned to pure gold in the sun.
“Do you know what tree that is?” asked Rosana.
“It’s an olive tree,” I said. “Isn’t it beautiful.”
The Long, Lazy Lunch
I had planned for us to go back into Barcelona for lunch after our visit, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave. We walked up to the hotel and ordered the Aire lunch menu, a light and healthy meal prepared with vegetables grown on the hotel’s own land and fresh juices. We took our time and drank in the views. It was glorious.

Hi Ben – my boyfriend and I will be in Barcelona in May and I’m thinking of booking this spa after reading your post. Do you think it would be difficult to get to the spa from downtown Barcelona? Do you have any advice? Thank you!
Thanks for your message. If you have a rental car and a GPS then I’m sure you’ll find it easily enough. If you go, I would maybe suggest going for the night and staying the night – the link’s in the post.
But I would say their Barcelona city spa is almost just as nice (and is obviously much easier to access), so it all depends on how much time you have. You can see my post on that here> http://www.driftwoodjournals.com/aire-de-barcelona-spa-arab-baths-experience/
Hope that helps!
