Tips and Tricks for the Ultimate USA Road Trip

Last updated on January 18, 2023

Travelling around the USA by car is something we would all love to do. It is one of the best ways to see the United States and it gives you the control and freedom beyond what a normal holiday might offer.

If you want to go away on one of these amazing holidays, here are some top tips to help you plan things out.

Decide Where You Want to Go

The US is a big place and it would take you months if you wanted to visit the 48 connected states. Therefore, you need to decide where you want to go. There are some fantastic routes that run North to South, plus iconic journeys like Route 66. Try to break up routes into small chunks so you do not have to spend too much time on the road; unless you want to, of course!

Focus Your Mind

Many of the great American highways stretch on for miles with little change in scenery. With routes like this, you want to make sure that your mind does not wander away too much. Whether you pull over and take a moment to re-focus your mind or you invest in a car with blind spot features made for driving long distances, there are many ways you can keep your attention on the road instead of drifting away.

Have a Back-Up Place to Sleep

Many people set off on a road-trip with a flexible itinerary. Instead of booking places in advance, they prefer to pitch up and just see where has vacancies. The US is perfect for this, with hundreds, if not thousands, of cool and comfy motels to conveniently pull up at whenever you feel you’ve had enough of driving for the day. Check out websites like Motel Matcher, which are dedicated to helping you find the best motels near you.

It’s also a great idea to sling a tent and some sleeping bags into your trunk, just in case. Likewise, you could also see how easy it might be to turn your back seat into a temporary bed.

Bring a Power Bank

We rely on our phones a lot nowadays. It is very important that we keep them charged and functioning, especially if you are headed into a more remote area where signal might be a little patchy. A portable power bank means that you will always be able to keep your phone topped up no matter where you might be. Just don’t forget to charge the power bank when you can!

Have Rest Days

If you are making a holiday out of your road trip, you might be driving for days at a time. This is not good for you so you should think about planning a rest day every now and then. Find somewhere you can stay for a few days and try not to jump in the car as much, even to drive to a nearby tourist attraction. When you hit the road again, you will feel much better.

A road trip around the USA is a fantastic holiday! However, like any holiday, you need to do some serious planning before you head off. Plan well and in advance, and before you know it you could be heading out to see the United States!
