Absinta Bar (Barceloneta) ~ Sea Dogs, Bohemians and Absinthe in Barcelona

Last updated on May 6, 2016

Legend has it that this ancient bar was where Barcelona’s saltiest sea dogs and wildest artists came to sip on illegal absinthe in the late 1800s.

Absinta Bar Bareloneta - Barcelona

It’s seen wars, bombings, anarchy and plunder since then, but has some how retained its quirky charms and bohemian crowd. The scene is set with moody amber lighting, rickety tables and chairs, antique mirrors and dusty drinks cabinets that glow green with homemade bottles of liquid inspiration.

Order a glass of the homemade absinthe – if you dare – and watch the bar light up as the bartenders pour long shots into vintage flutes and set it on fire. As if you weren’t already scared enough! If the “fire ritual” is simply all too much for you, fear not, for the cocktail menu is equally as potent.
