I take lots of photos but share almost none. I’m trying to change that with my self-imposed “5 a day photo project”.
The goal: I will take and share five photographs a day. The point is to enjoy photography and the act of being creative on a daily basis. I’m thinking of it as getting a daily yoga session in, or eating my five fruit and veg a day. It’s meant to be good for me and my mental health.
These photos will document my life in an everyday kind of way. They could be photos of my family taken at home, or they could portray images from a trip or day out. I’m not looking for bangers. It is about the act of shooting rather the result of shooting that I care about.
To kick things off, here are some photos taken yesterday in Swansea Bay, where I live. I’d been hunched over my laptop all day editing a film and was desperate to get outside in the sunshine.
I had watched a hundred youtube videos of photographers shooting in places like London and New York. “If only I could get away for a couple of days just to shoot,” I thought. But that is not the spirit at all… The beauty of photography is that you can do it anywhere, any time – you literally don’t even need to leave your house.
The urge to shoot was overwhelming, so I grabbed my camera, jumped on my bike, and off I went.
In total I shot for about an hour or two, and it was lovely just watching people enjoying the sunshine – living life.
Anyhow, here are the photos… They’re not going to change the world, but they did change my day for the better, and that’s what it’s all about.
