The H10 Cubik is a 4-star design hotel located right in the centre of Barcelona, near Las Ramblas and the best of the historic old town. Stylish rooms and a spectacular rooftop terrace with bar, restaurant and swimming pool provide laid-back Mediterranean living.
The Vibe
Styled by Barcelona design megastar Lázaro Rosa-Violán, H10 Cubik’s contemporary and almost surreal décor inspires from the moment you arrive. This is exactly the funky kind of style and design you want from a modern Barcelona hotel.
In the reception area there are wall-to-ceiling spinning cogs and gears (an art installation) paired with retro armchairs, psychedelic lighting and funky toy robots in the colourful ‘Robotik Bar’. It’s very cool and totally unique.
Next to the bar is a quieter library area, where I enjoyed sipping a glass of wine and reading in the little nooks and cosy corners.
Location
H10 Cubik is located one of Barcelona’s main arteries, Via Laietana. This is one of the busiest roads in the city centre but you’d never know this once inside the hotel as the rooms are soundproofed and the rooftop terrace is high enough to evade the bustle below.
The central location puts Barcelona’s famous neighbourhoods like the Gothic Quarter, Raval and Born within easy strolling distance. If you’re looking for 4 star hotels in Barcelona near Las Ramblas then this is also a solid option.
I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a stylish and comfortable base from which to explore Barcelona’s main cultural sights and attractions on foot.
Antoni Gaudí’s Modernist buildings are situated within a 500 m radius, while the palm-filled Parc de la Ciutadella and city beaches are also within easy walking distance.
The Service and Facilities
Service is warm and efficient, provided by an immaculate team of staff. A complimentary drink (cava) on arrival certainly made me feel welcome and I enjoyed interacting with the friendly restaurant staff (and later with the bartenders at the cocktail bar).
The rooftop terrace boasts a small but inviting pool and sun deck offering spectacular views over the city skyline and the Gothic spires of the nearby cathedral.
Free WiFi is available in all rooms and throughout the property. There are also three modern and spacious meeting rooms, making it suitable for business travellers. Unfortunately, and this was one of the main drawbacks for me, the hotel doesn’t have its own gym, but guests are offered the use of a neighbouring gym (100 m from the hotel) for free.
The hotel doesn’t have its own carpark, but I honestly can’t imagine why you’d need a car while staying in such a central location. If you do need parking, however, you will find public parking nearby.
The Rooms
H10 Cubik’s 101 rooms are large and flooded with natural light. Some also have furnished terraces – my Junior Suite had epic views across Barcelona towards La Sagrada Familia.
The rooms are fresh and funky, with contemporary works of art and great lighting. I particularly liked the modern facilities, such as the Marshall (as in the guitar amplifier brand) music speaker, Nespresso coffee machine and large TV.
The bathrooms are spacious and equipped with elegant vanity mirrors, complimentary toiletries and bathrobes. Excellent value.
The Food & Drink
A sensational buffet breakfast is served in the gorgeous Market Restaurant and includes everything from fresh fruit and pastries to sliced meats and an additional menu of hearty hot meals (available for €23 pp – £20).
The ground floor Robotik Bar is great for light bites like sandwiches and salads, while the rooftop Atik Restaurant and Terrace is the place to be for tapas and paella. Great cocktails and local wines, too.
During the summer you’ll find live music on the rooftop, making it an exceptionally romantic place to be as the sun sets over Barcelona.
This is definitely one of my favourite hotel rooftop bars – mainly because it’s so relaxed and unpretentious.
The Verdict
If you’re looking for something modern, romantic and luxurious located right in the city centre then this is an excellent option.
Double rooms are available from around €120 (£105/$140), which offers outstanding value for money when you compare it to many of the other 4-star hotels located this centrally in Barcelona.
The breakfast buffet (€23 pp (£20) per person) is excellent, but there are also countless cafes, bakeries and brunch spots within easy walking distance if you want to save a bit of spending money.
