It´s not just about the complimentary tapas – Granada is a great gastronomic destination for all palates and you´ll find plenty of fine dining options and memorable places which foodies will love too. Here are the best restaurants and tapas bars in Granada, Spain! Salud!

Ruta de Veleta ~ Classic Tapas, Local Wines

Ruta de Veleta Terrace Restaurant Granada

This traditional restaurant has selected top quality produce from the region of Granada and lovingly prepares signature dishes to enjoy. Don´t miss the desserts, the presentation is really quite impressive. The wine list here includes plenty of Granada wines (red and white) worth tasting.

Address: Carretera de Sierra Nevada, 136, Cenes de la Vega
Average Price Per Person: €45 – Booking recommended

El Claustro ~ Grand Sophistication

El Claustro Granada by piccavey

This restaurant is set inside the Hotel AC Santa Paula but please don’t let that put you off. Non-residents are welcome in this stunning historical setting. This convent preserves original features and even in the furniture. In summer, dine outside in the cloister on warm evenings. And in cooler months the seating inside has views across the beautiful courtyard. The food here is exquisitely presented and even the portion size is perfection. And the bread is magical!

Address: Gran Via de los Reyes Catolicos (inside Hotel AC Santa Paula)
Average Price Per Person: €45 – Booking recommended

Parador de Granada ~ Alhambra Palace Views

Parador de Granada by piccavey

Another stunning historic setting. The restaurant of the Parador Hotel looks out across to the Generalife gardens inside the Alhambra palace grounds. The dessert list here is extensive, something which always thrills me. Many vegetables are included in the dishes with plenty of Granada produce in the recipes. The selection of fish and meat dishes is balanced and quality vs price excellent.

Address: Calle Real de la Alhambra (inside Alhambra complex)
Average Price Per Person: €35 – Booking required

Corrala del Carbon ~ Meat Feasts and Sweet Treats

Corrla de Carbon Granada by piccavey

A must for meat lovers. This restaurant specialises in barbecued and roast meats. Enjoy casual dining with a few ´raciones´ in the busy bar area or request a table in the restaurant area for a proper dinner. A local dessert called ´lagrimas de Boabdil´made of local almonds and raspberry sauce is simple but delicious.

Address: Calle Corral del Carbon (close to Plaza del Carmen)
Average Price Per Person: €28 – Booking recommended

Cunini ~ Best Paella and Seafood in Granada

Cunini Granada

Probably the best place in Granada to enjoy paella, seafood and fish dishes. This traditional restaurant located just a stone´s throw from the market has fresh fish from the coast of Granada, Motril port. Paella is a lunchtime dish, locals never ask for this in the evening.  Remember to ask for the daily special as some dishes aren’t on the menu due to seasonality.

Address: Plaza de Pescaderia (close to Granada Cathedral)
Average Price Per Person: €28 – Booking recommended

Botanico ~ Informal, Wallet-friendly Dining

 Restaurante Botanico Café

Modern casual dining. This is a good option for late breakfast or relaxed lunch. Sandwiches, burgers and salads. They also have a menu del dia option. Good value Monday to Friday lunchtime.

Address: Calle Duquesa (close to Jardin Botanico)
Average Price Per Person: €10 – Booking not necessary

Mercado de San Agustin ~ Market Produce and Tempting Tapas

Mercado de San Agustin Tapas Granada

The main food market close to the cathedral has a few areas for eating produce from the stalls. Tapas, raciones and cold beers. There is also the option to buy food prepared to take home for later. Fried fish, local dishes and sushi are some of the options. One of my favourite stalls is 28 the mushroom stall just near the entrance. A Foodie must see.

Address:  (just below Gran Via)
Average Price Per Person: €8 – Booking not necessary

Tabernaculo ~ Rustic Tapas Bar

Tabernaculo Tapas Bar Granada, Spain

This small tapas bar at the beginning of the Calle Navas is everything to do with Easter week. The walls are lined with Semana Santa paraphernalia, candles, posters of the virgins of Granada and medals from the local churches.

Tapas are simple and filling but this place is so full of character, it’s not to be missed.

Address: Calle Navas (close to Plaza del Carmen)
Average Price Per Person: €7 – Booking not necessary

Bar Aliatar ~ Quick and Tasty Bites

Bar Aliatar Granada Spain

If you want a quick sandwich on the go, pop over to this traditional little bar. They have hot and cold sandwiches. You can eat them on the bar with the locals or ask for them to go (para llevar). My personal favourites are Habas (broad beans and ham) and San Francisco (pork mayo and cheese). You are likely to have to stand as this place gets busy.

Address: Calle San Sebastian (close to Plaza Bib Rambla)
Average Price Per Person: €7 – Booking not necessary
